Ph.D. in Women's and Gender Studies

At present, candidates may register in any of the following specialties: Anthropology, Literature (American, English, Spanish, French and Francophone, Italian), Comparative Literature, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Educational Science, Political Science, and Sociology. The Ph.D. in Women's and Gender Studies requires a corresponding specialty subject. Doctors who wish to pursue qualification in a discipline recognized by the Conseil National de l'Université can present their application before the CNU section dedicated to that particular field of study.

Registering as a Ph.D. student

Students will be admitted to the Women's and Gender Studies Ph.D. program after an interview with a Research Advisor. The candidates must present an application that includes the following :

- a CV
- a copy of his or her Master's 2 dissertation, or D.E.A. dissertation
- a presentation on their proposed thesis project (around 10 pages) which will include a description of the thesis statement, a summary and a bibliography.

NB: The candidate must have obtained a distinction of "Bien" in the Master's 2 or D.E.A. in order to present their application to register.

Once admitted, the student will be put in contact with an appropriate professor who will become his or her research advisor.

Research Seminars

During the writing of the thesis, the student is required to participate in Ph.D. seminars offered by the staff, with the approval of their research advisor. The student must take at least one seminar per year during the writing of their project. They must also take classes in the doctoral school of the relevant PhD program. (See Research Outline : Practices and Theories of Meaning Doctoral School, Social Sciences Doctoral School).

The seminars will accompany the research being carried our and will require the active participation of the student: essays, presentation of research findings, text and document study, debates.

The doctoral candidates are invited to participate in colloquiums, study conferences, and themed conferences organized by the program.

A collective doctoral seminar is proposed by the Center for Women's and Gender Studies specifically for the Women's and Gender studies doctoral candidates. It is included in the framework of the "Practices and Theories of Meaning " and "Social Sciences" doctoral schools as well as of the CNRS laboratory CRESPPA-GTM (Parisian Center for Research in Politics , Sociology, and Gender).

Doctoral Colloquium

Every year, the research team organizes a conference specifically designed so that the candidates can present their research findings. In this way, the candidates can exchange their points of view and keep each other updated about their research findings.
